Melting Glaciers – Water Futures from the Alps to the Nile is the first international exhibition by the Gletscher Project, presented in Cairo at the invitation of the Swiss Embassy in Egypt as part of the SABBART program.

This exhibition brings together a collection of photographs dedicated to Swiss glaciers and their rapid transformations linked to climate change. Through different series, the project addresses the multiple dimensions of glaciers: their role as water reserves, their connections with human activities and energy and tourism infrastructure, the scientific environments that study them, as well as the hidden and ephemeral spaces that exist beneath the ice surface.

The exhibition also proposes a dialogue between the Alps and Egypt. Each year, Sahara dust reaches the Swiss glaciers, reminding us that these territories are connected by climatic and atmospheric dynamics. A series by Egyptian photographer Roger Anis, focusing on the Nile, enriches this reflection by opening another perspective on water as a vital and cultural resource.

Conceived in a way that reflects its environmental values, the exhibition was designed remotely: prints produced locally, reuse of frames from previous exhibitions, and no on-site travel to limit its environmental impact.

Melting Glaciers thus seeks to connect territories as well as ways of doing, between observation, ecological awareness, and visual storytelling.
