A PARALLEL BETWEEN SWITZERLAND AND ICELAND
I have always been particularly fascinated by glaciers. As a photographer and enthusiast, I have had the privilege of observing them in Switzerland and Iceland – two distinct regions united by the beauty and diversity of their glacial formations. The parallels between them became clear when I spoke to an Icelandic glaciologist who told me of his desire to study Swiss glaciers, as they unwittingly represent the future of those in Iceland. In short, what is happening here will inevitably happen there, but on a much larger scale. As a reminder, the surface area of the Great Aletsch Glacier is 79 km², whilst that of Vatnajökull is 8,300 km². Can you tell the difference between these two countries?
